Gibson releases a new Player Port acoustic, the G-Bird

The famous Gibson Hummingbird guitar has long been a player favorite of acoustic players and now the company has decided to relaunch the line with their clever Player Port, a hole in the top of the guitar that expands the sound and lets the player hear more of that Gibson goodness. The new guitar is called the G-Bird and is available now.

The guitars are handmade in Bozeman, Montana and feature LR Baggs Element Bronze pickups and sound hole covers for the front and side sound holes.

From the release:

The G-Bird, the newest addition to the Generation Collection–represents the glorious legacy of the Gibson Hummingbird colliding with modern sonic enhancement through the Gibson Player Port to add a new dimension to the G-Bird sound. The Gibson Player Port allows players to hear more of themselves as the audience hears it. With a tone that is crisp and resonant, all of the Gibson Generation Collection acoustics are designed to be comfortable to hold and play for long periods of time. All Generation Collection guitars feature the Gibson Player Port, slim, lightweight bodies, a flatter fingerboard radius, Walnut back and sides, Sitka spruce tops, and a stunning Natural finish. Additionally, the new G-Bird, and the G-200 and G-Writer are equipped with LR Baggs Element Bronze pickup systemswhich amplify deep bass and crystal-clear highs.

You’re going to be paying an acceptable $1,799 for this American-made guitar and the package includes a case. That’s about $1,200 less than the original Hummingbird so you’re getting new tech, great workmanship, and a guitar that will stand the test of time.
