Coming soon: Monoprice True Wireless Earbuds

While some of my fellow writers here at KN tend to keep their audio on the higher-end, I’m always curious about what there is to be found on the more affordable end of things. It’s not to say that I don’t appreciate a well-crafted pair of earphones or speakers, because I do. I just have realized I can be just as pleased for day-to-day use with something without the high end touches. There’s a lot of good bargains out there to be had, and it’s looking like we might need to put the Monoprice True Wireless Earbuds into that category as well.

In terms of design, the Monoprice True Wireless Earbuds will look familiar, with a small bud (and silicone tips you can swap out to get the fit correct) in your ear and a small stem extending down, with a chromed tip at the end. The charging case is wonderfully compact as well, with a small flip-top on top to drop the earbuds in to charge them back up. With up to seven hours of run time in the earbuds, and another four charges in the case, these should keep running for a nice long time.

What I’m finding interesting about the Monoprice True Wireless Earbuds is the driver size. Coming in at 13mm, this is on the larger size (if memory serves me) that I’ve seen for earbuds, which should help with reproduction of the lower frequencies. We’ve also got active noise cancellation coming along for the ride as well, which is always appreciated. It includes a pass-thru mode so you don’t have to take the earbuds out to talk to folks, but it doesn’t seem like there’s an automatic detection if you pull one out to stop your music.

Mix in things like IPX5 splashproof ratings (meaning that they’ll be ok if you get sweaty wearing them, or get caught in the rain), this means there are a number of things going on here that should definitely have you looking past whatever no-name $20 pair you find online. Specs and photos are one thing, though, the proof is in the hearing. To that end, we’re working on getting in a set to test out once they’re available. When they are in stock next month (estimated for August 12, 2022), they’ll go for just $59.99 directly from monoprice.com
